The Godfather Trilogy

Yesterday my husband and I began watching The Godfather Trilogy, well I should say we got through 75% of the first Godfather movie (I forgot just how long it is). I have watched the Trilogy previously, but this time we are watching with a specific objective: study the movie and take notes. It’s for a project we are working on for one of our businesses. Loving this part of my job!

I’m looking at the movie in such a new way and it’s allowing me to discover things I may not have caught the first time or didn’t give it as much attention as I should have.  For instance, the wardrobe is fantastic.  I am fascinated with clothing from bygone eras; anything based in the time period of 1969 or older piques my interest. I especially love the 40’s and 50’s. All those beautiful hats and exquisite clothing make my heart flutter. The Godfather, the story spans between 1945-1955, has no shortage of that.

Diane Keaton sports one of the best wardrobes I have ever seen. I especially love the sweet red dress with matching sun hat she wears to Connie’s wedding, the fabulous fur coat and matching pillbox hat she strolls the street in with Michael, and how about the head to toe orange-red coat and hat with very chic scarf she dons when asking Tom about Michael. She models so many gorgeous outfits with such style and so flawlessly that you can’t help but feel envious of this character’s wardrobe. If I could only be so lucky to have a closet filled with even a handful of these articles of clothing I would be a happy girl.

Don’t get me started on the wedding gowns. They are TO…DIE…FOR… From head to toe these looks are magnificent.  It made me want to get married all over again, just so that I could walk down the aisle in one of these pretties. I loved the head to toe looks, but the veils really made an impression on me.  I am obsessed! I have a few collections I’m passionate about and I think veils are going to be a new one. Everything about them is perfection…the lace, beading, and embellishments. Between Connie’s and Apollonia’s veil I’d have to say my favorite is Apollonia’s.  It has so many lovely details to fall in love with.

Then there are the men of the movie. They are impeccably dressed. Everyone looks like a million bucks in their perfectly tilted hats, 3- piece suites  and spiffy shoes. Men really knew how to do it up in those days. Their attire could give the ladies of those days a good run for their money.

As I continue The Godfather marathon, let me leave you with some 40’s and 50’s woman’s clothing inspiration.

Merriam-Webster defines art as something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings. It also states works created by artists; paintings, sculptures, etc., that are created to be beautiful or to express important ideas or feelings.

As it states on the Merriam-Webster page this definition is the simple definition, the full definition is far more complicated and hard to sum up in just one thought or sentence. The full definition includes words like conscious use of skill, creative imagination, and decorative or illustrative elements.  The word itself can pertain to more than just the works of art hanging in a museum or the walls of your home. Art may pertain to the the quality or state of being artful, a branch of learning and so forth.  For this particular post I am focused on the simple definition of art. The product produced by an artist’s hard work, undeniable skill and talent, and unique imagination.

I myself have always been a huge art lover. From a very young age I loved to visit museums, flip through art books and make my own unique art or replicate art that spoke to me.  I remember one such occasion when in Junior High I made an attempt to recreate Vincent Van Gogh’s Sunflowers (1889). That was not any easy task to accomplish.  It took me days to get it just right, or at least to my liking. I have to admit I remember being quite impressed with myself and the end product.

Sunflowers (1889) is just one of the many pieces of art that has moved me over the years.  I think every year I am taken by a new artist I may discover for the first time or rediscover all over again. My thought is that what stage in life you are in or what you are experiencing in your personal and professional life will impact what you are moved by.  Certain works of art may move you now, but your feelings towards it may change later.  Or something you may not have cared for before may intrigue you now.  It all depends on where you are mentally at that very moment.

Girl with a Pearl Earring (1665) by Johannes Vermeer is another piece of art I am madly in love with.  I became fascinated with this particular painting when I heard of the release of a new movie (at the time) of the same title.  I had yet to see the trailer of the movie, but I new it was something right up my alley.  There was great talk about the painting and suddenly I was swept away by the portrait of this young woman. Her eyes said so much, yet so little. It is still one of my favorite paintings to this day.

This beautiful painting has inspired me to create a color palette. It has such deep and lush shades of blue and brown perfect for a fall wedding or sophisticated enough for a room makeover, for example, a library, living room or dining room redo.

Le Vintage Photo Booth’s Anniversary

2-YearAnniversaryWhenever you attempt something new and out of your comfort zone you are filled with some apprehension along with an abundance of excitement, enthusiasm, and anticipation. You hope that you succeed and when you do it is a moment that fills you with such accomplishment.  This is exactly how my husband and I are feeling at this very moment.  We made the decision to begin a new business from scratch, something we hadn’t done in over 10 years. It was a grueling experience, but such an incredibly fulfilling one too. Two years later we are in such a great place with our business- growing as we speak (write). It has been an unforgettable ride I would take again and again!

The following is what we posted on our Le Vintage Photo Booth Facebook page and website:

Two years ago this month Le Vintage Photo Booth made its debut at an RGV wedding fair. It was only two short years ago that we took a leap of faith and decided to begin a new business/chapter/adventure in our lives. We’d already had great success with John Arriola Films and thought we’d throw our hats into the photo booth ring. A decision we are so happy we made! This journey has been challenging, exciting, and extremely fulfilling. We have had such an incredible time with every aspect of this new adventure from meeting extraordinary business owners and sweet clients to stretching our creative and crafty wings to experiencing a new side of the wedding industry.

As we reflect upon these wonderful two years we are filled with such gratitude. Everyday we thank our lucky stars for all that we have been blessed with. We are also humbled by the overwhelmingly positive response we have been showered with throughout this new venture. Thank you to all of our previous and current clients, as well as future clients. Thank you for allowing us to BRING THE FUN!

In honor of this very special month we have some new and exciting things to come to commemorate such an important event in our lives. Some of the things to look forward to: promotions, specials, and fun events. As an added bonus John Arriola Films will also participate in this very special celebration. So you’ll also have an opportunity to save on cinematography, as well.

Be sure to stay tuned to our Websites (Le Vintage Photo Booth & John Arriola Films), Facebook and Instagram pages for all the latest developments. We will unveil all new announcements through our social media pages and /or Websites.

Thank you all for an AMAZING two years! We look forward to all the new and exciting adventures this journey has in store for us.

XOXO
John & Brenda Arriola
