Our Valentine’s Day Festivities

ValentinesDayFestivities

February, May and December are our favorite months of the year, that means any events, holidays, or celebrations during those months get a little more attention.  Valentine’s Day falls on one of those months, so as you can imagine it is a big deal in our home.  We like to go all out for the occasion, especially my husband- he manages to come up with some wonderful surprise for me every year.

On occasion we have spent our Valentine’s at those commonly advertised Valentine Dinners.  Those are always so romantic with fantastic food.  We attended one that had a horse-drawn carriage awaiting you after you ate.  That was probably my favorite- it doesn’t get any better than that.  Last year, we spent the day at home. We enjoyed a candle lit dinner (we ordered dinner from our favorite restaurant) with some fancy champagne and then snuggled up at the sofa for a romantic movie.

This year it is going to be bigger and better. We have the weekend off! That means we can celebrate Valentine’s Weekend! We have lined up some fun festivities for the entire weekend. Yay! Really excited! This weekend will be all about us and spending quality time.  The past few weeks have been very hectic and this would be a welcomed change. That means no phones, no computers or any other electronic device, just one on one time.

One such activity planned for the weekend is a moviethon. We will each contribute 5 movie titles- any movies it doesn’t have to be Valentine’s related- into a bowl. We will then draw a movie title to determine what will be enjoyed.  I’m not sure how many we will have an opportunity to watch, but I’m pretty sure the 10 movies will cover us for the day. And a moviethon is not complete without all the goodies: popcorn, pickle and candy. We will have all the fixings!

Below are our picks for the moviethon.

My 20 Favorite Rom-Coms

Top20RomComs

I recently read a list of Rom-Coms by Mindy Kaling, and I was happy to see some of my faves made the list. Then it got me thinking about my favorite Romantic Comedies. I started to jot some titles down hoping to come up with at least 10 movie titles to include in my series THE LOVELY TEN, however, it didn’t end up that way.  What I had intended to be a list of my top 10 favorites became my top 15, then I was at 16, 17…finally landing on 20. Yup, twenty! I tried to narrow down the list, but I couldn’t- all of these movies are just so darn good. So this is a list of MY 20 FAVORITE ROMANTIC COMEDIES!

I am a hopeless romantic at heart, therefore, this particular genre of movies has always been a favorite of mine.  Any time there was a new Romantic Comedy at the theaters I would drag my girlfriends or boyfriend to see it.  I was not very discriminating, so I have seen many- the good, the bad, and the ugly. Romantic Comedies fueled my dream of one day meeting my Prince charming, being romanced my him, eventually my Prince asking my hand in marriage and us living happily ever after. In my heart I knew I’d meet him.  My girlfriends, on the other hand, thought I was diluted to have such an insane dream.  They were convinced that kind of love was only in the movies and real love didn’t happen that way.  But I paid no attention to their pessimistic way of thinking.  I knew I would meet my Prince one day…And I did!

Now to the movie list!

What made the list?  These are movies that no matter how many times I have seen them, if I come across any of these titles on TV, I will watch it.  I think I have seen each movie no less than 30 times, some even more than that. These are my go-to movies when I’m having a bad day, have a cold or just because.  These movies always put a smile on my face.
